Fine Persian Kerman - AM178

Product Description

Size 110 x 80 cm, 3'8 x 2'8

Hand made in Iran (Persia) in wool. This rug has around 220000 knots and would have taken 37 days to weave and finish.

The city of Kerman in southern Iran wove many of the floral carpets found in Europe since the Georgian era  Their floral patterns being immensely. Eventually Persian banned the export of rugs to Europe as they felt they were losing their artistic treasures. This led to the setting up of the Aubusson and Savonerie carpet weaving factories in 19th Century Paris to reproduce these sought after rugs. The weave is good, the pile dense and the price moderate, making them very popular with western buyers. Most rugs from Iran are old or antique coming from the bazaars where we select the best condition pieces and fully refurbish them. These pieces can be between 25 and 100 years old with little or no sign of wear. To purchase a brand new rug is very expensive and the colours too brash for our taste.

Although we highly recommend purchasing this rug with our top quality German underlay as it vastly improves the life of your carpet and guards against slipping accidents, this Kerman is obviously more of a pictorial hanging rug and makes a beautiful and inexpensive addition to any art collection.

It has a 10 year non-stick, non-crumble guarantee. To learn more click here.
