Hand made in Iran (Persia) in wool.
These are rugs and carpets made by the Armenians, Kurds, Luri and other tribes that have settled in the province of Chahar Mahal va Bachtiari, southwest of Isphahan. They are usually very well made and represent excellent value as they are usually medium fine. They are very heavily constructed and long lasting, sometimes over many generations. The colours are very suitable for Canada as they are often soft and muted in design. Bachtiar is also famous for its Persian panel or garden pattern from Chahar Shotur. Shalamzar is also well known for its tree of life pattern. Floral designs have always been popular in southern Persia. The landscape can be so barren and the climate harsh, so that it is hard to grow beautiful flowers for much of the year. Hence, they developed garden design carpets which could remind them of Spring and Summer days in the sun. A sentiment echoed here in Canada.
Hand-made in Iran from wool. This rug contains approximately 1100000 knots, and would have taken 183 days to weave and finish.
Most rugs from Iran are old or antique coming from the bazaars where we select the best condition pieces and fully refurbish them. These pieces can be between 25 and 100 years old with little or no sign of wear. To purchase a brand new rug is very expensive and the colours too brash for our taste. The advantage is that they have mellowed into colours most suitable for the North American and European markets and are very inexpensive.
We highly recommend purchasing this rug with our top quality German underlay as it vastly improves the life of your carpet and guards against slipping accidents.
It has a 10 year non-stick, non-crumble guarantee. To learn more click here.
