Hand-made in Afghanistan from wool. This rug contains approximately 905000 knots, and would have taken 151 days to weave and finish.
This piece is the very finest mixed flat weave and pile carpet to be found in the region, a real collectible. It is a mixture of soumak (flat weave) and pile carpet, a very difficult combination and painstaking weaving process.
Every pile rug has a nap so that the pile lies in one direction. This means there is a lighter end and and darker end for each rug which is why there are photographs from both ends.
